Summer work
The thriller film that I am going to be looking at is
The Avengers Assemble this is a film about a group of super human people
protecting the earth from evil men. I feel that this is a good piece of film as
it has a bit of everything from stereotypes to anti-stereotypes and shows how
mise-en-scene is used throughout.
In this first screen shot we see how agent Romanoff is
shown to be innocent and that again for an American film we see that it is a
Russian man in a uniform to be a baddy. This could be due to the cold war where
these two sides came to conflict. Also we see other props that are linked into
this action thriller for example the props where the three Russian men have
guns this I feel is very stereotypical to an action thriller. However after this
still we see how Agent Romanoff is a bit of an anti-stereotype as when her boss
calls the interrogator she is able then to beat all the men while tied up and
make her way out with her high heels.
This next shot we can see how the producer has used
the camera angles to show power and authority. However you do see that the
villain is standing taller than the hero but the hero does not seem to look
like he is so small that he is out of the fight. Also we see the way they are
both dressed in this shot, the villain is shown to be wearing dark clothing and
the hero lighter, which emphasizes the fact that darkness will never prevail.
The next screen shot we see how sound is used to build
tension. As agent Romanoff and Bruce are in a room together and Bruce is turning
to the hulk. However the tension build is agent Romanoff’s leg being caught.
The music changes first with a slow quite beat and then building quicker and
quicker, as you know the Hulk will probably kill agent Romanoff. The music used
is orchestral which is used in quite a few films as a way to build tension in a
scene.
Finally we see in this last shot is a extreme long
shot of the city to show where the fighting will commence. Through watching
many thriller films I have found that a lot of these battles have taken place
in unrealistic settings but I believe that that makes for a better escapism
film.
